  • 🐾 Foster Success Stories

Because every sled dog deserves a second chance—and a place to call home.

These are the stories that remind us why we do what we do. Each of these incredible dogs came into rescue needing safety, love, and a fresh start. Thanks to the dedication of our fosterers and adopters, they found more than just a home — they found healing, happiness, and family

Some stayed just a little while. Others never left. All of them changed lives — including our own.

Nala's Story : My Little Foxy Lady

    Shared by Nic

Nala came to me as a foster when her family situation changed. I’d fostered dogs before, and each one had happily gone on to find their perfect forever home.

    But Nala was different.

From the moment she stepped through the door, it was like she’d always belonged here. She settled in straight away and got along beautifully with my two huskies—it was as if she’d known them all her life.

When the time came to advertise her for adoption, I found myself hesitating. Deep down, I knew I couldn’t let her go. She had already found her forever family—right here with me.

My little foxy lady was home to stay.

Nala is no longer with me, but she is loved and missed every single day. She gave me more than I ever expected, and I’m so grateful she chose me.

Nishka’s Story: The Dog Who Chose Me

    Shared by Carole

When Nishka’s meet and greet didn’t go to plan, the thought of her going back into kennels broke my heart. So I agreed to take her home with me—just temporarily.

At the time, I was still grieving the loss of my beloved Kira and Bailey, both of whom passed within such a short time. My heart was shattered, and I’d built walls around myself to cope with the grief. I wasn’t looking to let anyone else in.

    But Nishka had other plans.

I didn’t know I needed her, but I think Kira and Bailey did. It’s almost like they sent her to me. She didn’t push, she didn’t rush—she just quietly made herself part of my world.

And somehow, she helped me start to heal.

Nishka was never just a temporary foster. She was home all along.

Chad's Story : Worth The Wait

    Shared by Colin

Chad spent several years in kennels, waiting for the right home to come along. He’s a bit of an escape artist, so finding the perfect environment—and the right people—took time and care.

But through it all, Chad never lost his cheerful spirit. Despite the long wait, he remained a happy, hopeful boy who charmed everyone he met.

    And finally, his moment came.

Chad found his forever home with a family who understands him, accepts his quirks, and gives him the freedom, security, and love he deserves.

Now he’s living his best life—with space to run, people to adore him, and a brand new lease on life.

Some dogs just need time. Chad was one of them—and he was absolutely worth the wait.

Frankie’s Story: Big, Daft, and Home at Last

    Shared by Colin

Frankie came into rescue and was rehomed, but sadly, things didn’t work out—and he had to come back.

This big, daft, gorgeous lad was full of charm and character, but he was sometimes overlooked. Maybe it just wasn’t his time yet.

Eventually, though, Frankie found exactly what he needed: a forever home where he truly belongs. He now has a playful furry friend to keep him company, a family who adores him, and a life full of love, fun, and mischief.

Frankie has his paws firmly under the table—and he’s not going anywhere.

He’s finally home, and this time, it’s forever.

Anuk’s Story: A Husky with No Intentions of Behaving

    Shared by Val

About 11 years ago, a husky-owning friend of mine got in touch—someone had found a husky wandering loose and wondered if it might be his. It wasn’t, so he asked me to come and scan him for a microchip.

The chip details were out of date, so I started driving around trying to find his owner. Eventually, someone posted online about their missing husky—and that’s how I first met Anuk.

I took him home, his owner told me she was considering giving him up, but decided to give it one more try. Nine months later, I got a call from the rescue asking me to pick up a dog in need. It was Anuk again.

He’d been passed to a friend of the original owner, but she quickly realised that a husky was a 10-year commitment she couldn’t make. So, Anuk came home with me.

Later, someone told me the real reason he was given up: he didn’t match the wallpaper.

Well, he may not match the dĆ©cor, but Anuk has been part of my life ever since. He’s always been a bit of a rogue—opening doors, sneaking into things he shouldn’t—but he’s full of character, and I wouldn’t change a single thing about him.

He didn’t just land in my home—he made it his.
